Chapter 44

Everyone Has An Agenda

“Pammie?” I said surprised. “What are you doing here love?” I said walking the opposite way from the elevator.
“I should ask you the same thing, I mean this isn’t the Hyatt!” she laughed.
“Your right. Uhm. Yeah. Difficult situation actually. I’m doing business. Or trying to land a business deal with a very hard headed heiress.” She nodded as if I had other intentions here with her but looked away awkwardly.
“So you never called…” she announced looking upset.
“Well neither did you darling…” I said wondering why I had to be the one to do it. She looked at me strangely, and I was getting a really odd vibe from her. Ever since the other night til now, it was as if something had happened and she was becoming awkward about us even talking. I decided to try and break the ice and come closer to her,
“Hey look I’ve had some really stressful days with my fathers will and trying to close the deal on this hotel. I really do apologise sweetheart… how can I make it up to you?” I said taking her hands.

Her awkwardness melted away and she smirked at me,
“Your room or mine?” I said whispering in her ear before pulling away from her biting down on my lip. She smiled immediately and considered it a moment seemingly overwhelmed by my offer,
“I start work in about an hour. And my commute is long… I … I,” she said trying to convince herself that she couldn’t.
“I can be really quick,” I said whispering against her collar bone trying to entice her.

“Oh for goodness sake… you win. My room…” she said snatching my hand and walking me down the corridor. I honestly didn’t think Pammie would crack. Considering her blowing me off the other night and wanting to take it slow, I was confused by her sudden change of heart.

But then again, I did tease her.

Pammie stood at her door and fumbled with her keys trying to get into her room speedily before ushering me inside and closing the door quickly. She actually wasted no time peeling the jacket from my back before my pants hit the floor.
“Oh you’re in trouble…” I said seductively lunging towards her. I kissed her at first, the way I wanted to the other night. Her kiss was needing and she drew me closer to her with one leg around my thigh. As our bodies crushed together, my body raged into a different level of need.

I practically tore Pammie’s shirt apart and just as I buried my face in her chest there was a knock at the door. Both of us stopped abruptly,
“Who is it?” she said before she placed her finger over her mouth.
“It’s Austin…”

Who the heck was Austin?

“Ugh Austin… ugh. Ugh. Um hold up,” Pammie said sounding panicked.
“Who is Austin?” I whispered. She could barely get a word out as she pulled her shirt closed and flicked her hair back.
“What are you doing here? I thought we were going to meet in an hour?” she replied buttoning her shirt.
“Yeah, sorry to show up like this. But I got a tip on where that Hyatt guy is…” I looked at Pammie and my shoulders immediately dropped. I was confused for a moment but I gulped down knowing exactly what he was talking about. Pammie had been writing stories about me and having photos taken of me. I started putting pieces together in my head and pulled my pants up not saying a word. Pammie shook her head with apologetic eyes and spoke again,
“Okay, I will meet you downstairs in a minute. Just go wait in the car…”
“Okay, see you in a few…” As I could hear him walking away from the door I took a sighing breath out.

“It’s not what you think Sean. I…” she said before I intercepted,
“Actually, it sounds pretty convincing. I’ve been struggling my butt off to clean my name up. I’m at risk of losing the my place at the Hyatt because of the media and their photos. Do you realise what you are doing to me?”
“Oh Sean. No… I’ve had nothing but good intentions. I promise. But my boss…” Pammie stammered.

“But your boss nothing. You could be honest about our relationship to him and you wouldn’t be forced to do anything. But you been stitching me up this whole time.” I said with disappointment. I didn’t even bother to grab my jacket and I opened the door ready to exit,
“Sean, don’t leave. I didn’t mean for this to happen.” Pammie begged.
“Everyone has an agenda and priorities. Go do your Job, Miss Cromwell…” I frowned before leaving her room.

I took the stairs down and I looked up to see Pammie upset looking over the railing,
“Sean… Sean…” she called. But I looked forward and crossed through the lobby not even sure where I was going. I hadn’t even found my room yet, but I wandered into the side lounge and into the bar area ordering a drink.

The number of people I could trust were falling every day. I never thought Pammie would be one of them.

  1. When one lies or acts in a dishonest way complications are created beyond ones control. No one said it better than Sir Walter Scott, “Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve.”

  2. I knew this was likely to happen. She should have been honest. But I can sort of see why she was afraid to be. She didn’t want to get hurt. But she has no ill will towards him but he doesn’t know that. He’s feeling alone and is a bit overwhelmed and she wasn’t honest with him.
